An excellent short chassis Speed Model restored and superbly engineered to Birkin Le Mans Supercharged Spec
Continuous history from new.
This particular Blower 3-4 1/2 is a conversion and subsequent upgrade to a replica of
the original Birkin Blower UU5872 built for the LeMans race in 1929.
The 3 Litre Upgrade to the Birkin Bentley:
The Fuel Tank:
The larger Birkin Fuel Tank has been made and fitted to the chassis along with cast
bronze brackets replicating exactly the Birkin car. Note the quick release cap
assembly.
The Steering Box:
The original 3L steering box has been machined to accept 4.5 type steering gears.
These have been fitted along with the new sleeves and shafts etc.so the car steers
as she should.
The original numbers on the steering box are retained.
The Brakes, Axles, Chassis:
The front axle has been overhauled and the drums replaced with the correct type.
The rear brakes have been relined and the 3L rear drums have been replaced with
4.5 drums. These are the correct self wrapping brakes that the Birkin car has, totally
different to the brakes on the 3L. We have also welded baffle plates into the rear axle
to stop any oil spilling on the brake shoes when cornering, especially when racing,
this was done to all the later Bentleys.
The rear suspension Birkin replicated with double shock absorbers.
New stiffening plates in the correct spec steel have been made and fitted to the
chassis as on the Birkin car. The strut gear assembly (sub chassis strengthening
bar) has been fitted.
4.5L Supercharged Crankcase Assembly:
New engine and crankshaft assembly along with its new turret (gear drive) fitted.
This includes a stronger new crank case and a Birkin sump.
The Trimming:
New windscreen, leatherwork, hood and hood bag along with the Tonneau.
The Gear Box:
The D Type racing gear box which has been made for the Blower. This replaces the
A Type gear box that was originally in the car. It also includes a late 4.5 plate clutch
on the blower.
Bespoke Birkin Engine Parts:
Many of the bits and pieces that are fitted top the Birkin Supercharged Engine are
completely different to a non-supercharged 4.5L engine. Much work has gone into
drawing all of
these components in order for our engineers to produce them. The brake levers are
different lengths.
The strut gear which braces the bottom of the chassis is peculiar to the Blower only.
The leaf springs are completely different.
2 inch carburetors are fitted.
The Radiator:
Radiator as per the Birkin original.
Instruments and Dashboard:
Precise replication of all of the instruments to match the original Birkin Blower.
There is not a speedometer as the car originally did not have one
